Coccidial occurrence among domesticated pigeons (Columba Livia Domestica) In Babylon Province, Iraq.

Abstract:

The parasite Eimeria spp., an Apicomplixian protozoa, responsible for significant disease known as Coccidiosis of health concern in birds globally. Our study making a survey for Eimeria infecting domestic pigeons (Columba Livia Domestica) across several cities within Babylon province, Iraq. Two handred fecal samples gathered during the period between January to October 2023 and the diagnosis depend on the direct smear and flotation methods. The total prevalence rate was 22% and the males showed higher rate (25.2%) than females (17.2%) while the seasons and geographical sites presented significant variation. These results provide serious baseline facts for the geographical surveillance leading to employment of influential control measures.
