Abstract: Spider diversity is closely influenced by the availability of prey and the ecological conditions of their habitats. Belonging to the order Araneae of the class Arachnida, spiders play a vital role in terrestrial food webs and are widely recognized as bioindicators. The present research was undertaken to assess the species diversity of spiders in Surappattu village, located in Villuppuram District, Tamil Nadu, India. Specimens were collected from various habitats, including agricultural fields and the surrounding areas of Surappattu. The survey was conducted over a span of seven months, from July 2024 to January 2025. A total of 470 species of spiders were recorded, belonging to 15 families: Araneidae, Clubionidae, Eresidae, Gnaphosidae, Hersiliidae, Lycosoidea, Miturgidae, Oxyopidae, Pholcidae, Salticidae, Sclerosomatidae, Selenopidae, Sparassidae, Thomisidae, and Zodariidae. Among the study months, July contributed the maximum species count (113), which was higher than in other months of the survey.
