Author(s): Taklis Christos
Abstract: The Cave of Thetis at Radakia Beach, South Pelion, is a notable roosting site for bats (order Chiroptera). Previously, the presence of Miniopterus schreibersii (Schreibers' Long-fingered Bat) was confirmed, with the earliest observation dating to August 26, 2019. On May 27, 2021, photographic evidence documented the presence of juveniles, confirming breeding activity within the cave. Most recently, on July 20, 2024, Rhinolophus euryale (Mediterranean Horseshoe Bat) was observed for the first time at the site, expanding the known chiropteran diversity. This updated account consolidates these records and underscores the ecological importance of the Cave of Thetis as a multispecies bat roost.
